10 Reasons To Come To The EUU Retreat in Prague – RETREAT CANCELLED

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel the much-anticipated Spring Retreat because of the coronavirus pandemic.

 

  1. Prague is one of the most beautiful and historic cities in Europe , with sites such as the Charles Bridge, Prague Castle with Saint Vitus Cathedral, the historic fort of Vysehrad and countless other sites.
  2. Historically, during the First Republic (1918 to 1938), Prague had the largest Unitarian Congregation in the World.
  3. The Czech Republic has some of the best beer in Europe.
  4. The founder of the Czech Unitarian Church, Rev Dr Norbert Capek brought Unitarianism to the Czech Republic in 1922. Capek developed the internationally renowned ‘Flower Communion,’ which we will celebrate at the Sunday Morning Service of the EUU Retreat. During the 2nd World War, after being arrested and imprisoned in Dachau Concentration Camp, Capek was killed by the Nazi Regime — Capek is one of the first Unitarian Martyrs of the 20th Century.
  5. Prague is one of the most important centers in the world for Cubist Architecture. Prague also includes all architectural styles.
  6. Our congregation is one of the friendliest and most welcoming congregations within the Unitarian and Unitarian Universalist Traditions in Europe, with members from the USA, the UK, France, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Russia, New Zealand and other parts of Europe. We have a commitment to ‘Faith in Action’ and view our commitment to social justice as a key element of our Unitarian/Unitarian Universalist Faith.

  8. Prague’s Jewish quarter and the home of the Golem.
  9. Prague is famous for its artistic and musical scene, everything form Stand Up Comedy to Classical Music and Opera. Prague hosts many international Festivals every year including the International Fringe Festival, the Signal Festival, Febiofest (The International Film Festival) and many more.
  10. David Cerny is Prague’s most famous and controversial contemporary sculptors — his works of art are to be found all over the city.
