Our fall 2022 retreat will be held at a site EUU has visited many times in the past: the Centre Le Mittel in Mittelwihr in Alsace, France, in the Rhine valley. Mittelwihr is south of Strasbourg and close to the city of Colmar, known for its half-timbered houses and gothic churches. As one of the regions of Europe that welcomed Renaissance humanists, Alsace is a fitting setting for our retreat.

The Centre where we’ll be meeting is surrounded by rolling hills, covered with vineyards, among the most beautiful landscapes in France. Mittelwihr is part of the Route des Vins d’Alsace (Wine Route), https://www.wineroute.alsace, with some wineries a short walk away from the retreat site. Nearby is Riquewihr, less than an hour away by foot, a picturesque medieval market town.

Colmar is 2½ hours from Paris and 45 minutes from Basel by train. The retreat committee will organize rides from the Colmar train station – and we encourage those who plan to drive to the retreat to help with rides.

Those who have been to Mittelwihr before have good memories of the Centre’s cuisine and the warmth of its evening bar. We hope that there will be more good memories for all who come this time. And for those who are not coming to the retreat in person, we look forward to welcoming you online.
