Paul Rasor and Wies Houweling will present a workshop on their recent translation of the UUA Principles into Dutch. Translation raises important problems of interpretation and word choice, and so forces us to dig deeper into the meaning of our principles. In addition to issues of meaning and interpretation, Paul and Wies will discuss problems caused by Dutch grammatical rules and complications raised by the style and language pattern of the English original. They will also share earlier translation drafts and talk about why these were rejected, including places where they disagreed. Knowledge of Dutch will be helpful, but is not necessary.
