Rev. Thandeka in Brussels before the EUU Retreat

The Brussels Fellowship invites you to a special service with Rev. Thandeka, our guest speaker at the upcoming retreat in Bad Homburg.

The Rev. Thandeka

One week before the retreat, on Sunday November 10th, Rev. Thandeka will lead our November service, with a sermon entitled “Greet the Stranger Who Is Your Self.” This will be followed by a potluck supper (though if you’re traveling to Brussels, don’t worry if you can’t bring anything!). If you’re interested in joining us, the service will take place at the Quaker House on Square Ambiorix (1000 Brussels) and will begin at 4:30 p.m.

You’re also welcome to join us for tea from 4:00 p.m. (times TBC). On the following Wednesday (November 13th), Rev. Thandeka will also lead a workshop on “Love Beyond Belief.” This, too, will be combined with a meal (details TBC).

For further details on both the Sunday service and Wednesday workshop, please keep reading!

Sunday service: Greet the Stranger Who Is Your Self

The poet Derek Walcott invites us to meet the stranger who knows us by heart. Let’s do this love beyond belief work together.

Love After Love by Derek Walcott

The time will come
when, with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the other’s welcome
and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you
all your life, whom you have ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.

Wednesday workshop: Love Beyond Belief

Love Beyond Belief small group ministries create communities of connection, care, and trust. Each person is esteemed. No one is alone. Everyone is heard. The delicate splendor revealed in the small details of our lives is affirmed. Each person can feel loved beyond belief.
