As your officers (the three American ones), we believe it is time to carry on the long historical tradition of the UU Service Committee in WWII and the legacy of the civil rights Freedom Riders, to take a clear stand on the dangers to democracy that are currently facing the United States. We believe living and acting on our UU values makes the voting choices in November clear.
We must act in November by casting our personal votes and by acting right now to ensure that we and the people we know are registered to vote (especially if living abroad), even if they are U.S. citizens born abroad. We can also take action by participating in projects to help get out the vote of all eligible voters.
- It’s easy to register on the votefromabroad.org website. (NOTE: It is never a problem to register multiple times, if you aren’t sure about your current status.)
- We should all register NOW, because it can take more than 30 days to process applications.
- You should check ANNUALLY to make sure you are still registered, because some states require that registration be renewed every year.
We, your American officers, believe that silence is not an option and action is essential. There’s so much to lose!
