The Social Action Committee doles out further funds

At its April meeting the EUU’s Social Action Committee made two budget allocation decisions.

Les Amis du Mercy

First, it decided to follow up on an earlier discussion and support an outing for students at Paris member Lili Fulton’s school in Kenya (les Amis du Mercy).

The trip by bus to a volcano was apparently a great success. As Lili wrote to me following the trip, “most of them had never left the ‘working class neighborhood’ of Kawangware before…I am humbled that I got to witness these precious little people experience so much happiness with their mind-broadening field trip.”

A detailed description of the trip and some photos are available upon request to peter@jarrett-net.com.

Mistni mistim

The committee also donated 400€ to Mistni mistim, a Czech charity that partners with local cafes that welcome homeless people, allowing them to charge their phones, use their W/C and socialize. These cafes honor Mistni mistim vouchers for meals as well as offering their paying customers a chance to “pay forward” by purchasing a meal for someone in need. The organization also lobbies the Czech government for laws and services to benefit people in need and works to destigmatize homelessness. This donation will buy meal vouchers for 100 people.
