Almost two years have passed since I began my role as Social Action Officer for the UK General Assembly of Unitarians and Free Christians. In that time, I have travelled around the UK visiting congregations big and small, meeting Unitarians committed to their faith and living their values in demonstrable ways. I’ve marched alongside Unitarians dedicated to peace, equality, and a better, greener world, where our small numbers felt magnified when added to the thousands of others gathering for the same purpose.
This year, our team conducted a Social Action Audit, the results of which will help us develop projects and support for congregations according to our focussed interests and capacity. We have already seen the group “Unitarians for Climate Justice” form organically, and this group continues to grow. They will meet in Manchester on the 14 September for a day of inspirational talks, workshops, and solidarity.
The Social Justice Network, an umbrella group that seeks to inform and support the movement about relevant justice issues is also planning an in-person meeting in West London on the 5th October. Both of these meetings are open to all.
I continue to learn more about the issues that are important to UK Unitarians and look forward to making more meaningful connections through the EUU network.
